WHO I AM

I am Pau Dalmau, osteopath and teacher, and expert in SAT (Specific Adjustment Technique)

For more than 20 years I’ve been doing what I like the most and, from my point of view, what contributes to make a better society: education and health.

I discovered osteopathy 25 years ago: a new concept of health, which offers a holistic point of view. I was caught by its approach and I was captivated by the philosophy behind.

Since then, I have been trained both in Spain and abroad, and I have been fully involved in the development and promotion of this profession.

During the last 20 years, I have been general director of the Fundació d’Osteopatia de Barcelona, the body that promoted the Escola d’Osteopatia de Barcelona; a great educational and social project of which I am currently its president and of which I am particularly proud.

I have always practiced clinically as an osteopath and trained myself. Thanks to that, I heard about the SAT (Specific Adjustment Technique) approach, and I learned that SAT is much more than a technique. It is a very specific and integral approach that allows the therapist to connect consciously and deeply with the patient’s tissue. This requires knowledge, sensitivity, skill and reflection.

In my professional career I have been evolving in the understanding of this approach. Learning and applying it is complex; teaching it with all its depth is a challenge. Only a few people in the world are able to give training courses in SAT. I’m one of them and I am lucky to apply it daily in my practice.

MY BELIEFS

I AM AN OSTEOPATH BY TRAINING AND, ABOVE ALL, BY CONVICTION.
Osteopathy occupies my professional sphere but also the personal one. It is much more than a profession; it is a way of understanding and living health consciously.

I BELIEVE IN OSTEOPATHY AS ONE OF THE HEALTH APPROACHES OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM.
Because people need to reconnect with themselves and their environment.

I TRY TO BE COHERENT WITH MY ESSENCE.
And this essence is to live close to those who love me, surrounded by nature and being an osteopath. When I walk away from this path, when I am not authentic, my health is affected.

I TEACH FROM EXPERIENCE.
Teaching osteopathy while I practice as an osteopath allows me to approach and connect with students from any corner of the world. Our focus is the same: the patient.

EDUCATION IS THE BEST WAY TO SUPPORT A PROFESSION.
For this reason, I was one of the promoters of the Escola d’Osteopatia de Barcelona, and now I am working to spread the SAT approach to professionals from all over the world.

I DEFEND THAT OSTEOPATHY IS A DISCIPLINE WITH ITS OWN IDENTITY.
It is not only my opinion, but it is also what the WHO recognizes. It should be regulated so that patients can know when they are in the hands of a professional.

SAT APPROACH

Much more than a technique

If you are an osteopath, you have probably heard about SAT (Specific Adjustment Technique). SAT is a therapeutic approach framed in structural minimalist techniques, with a great functional balance, and a therapeutic result at the level of the different health systems of the person. It is applicable in certain somatic vertebral dysfunctions of traumatic origin, and very often in situations of whiplash.

The SAT approach requires skill. Precision. Sensitivity. But it is much more than a technique. It is a very specific and integral approach that allows the therapist to connect consciously and deeply with the patient’s health through the tissue. It is comprehensive and highly reflective. It does not focus on the injury but on the maximum potential of the person’s health. The osteopath is carried by the senses and connects deeply with the tissue.

TRAINING COURSES IN SAT

High-precision specialization

This 4-day-post degree training combines theory (understanding of the concept), reflection (diagnosis) and high-level skill practice (technical approach). After these four days, my students are trained to practice the SAT approach with total guarantees.

My challenge is that students perform a reflective learning process that allows them to connect with the patient’s tissue and, at the same time, they are able to perform a highly specific manoeuvre to resolve the dysfunction.

Close and personalized support of the student is needed to achieve the purpose of the training. Therefore, my courses are always in small groups.

There are no borders for the SAT approach. I have given trainings at the Escola d’Osteopatia de Barcelona (EOB) and at the Advanced Osteopathy Barcelona (AOB), as well as at important osteopathic schools in Europe, such as CEESO (France), the Lisbon Osteopathic Center (Portugal) and Panta Rhei Osteopathie (Holland), as well as in South America, specifically in Chile and Peru.

If you are interested in offering a training course in SAT in your osteopathic school, do not hesitate to contact me.

CONSULTATION

I’m not a theoretician, I like practice. Therefore, I spent much of my time doing what I love: treating my patients.

I apply the SAT approach in my practice whenever is appropriate. SAT is not appropriate for all patients, nor for all health problems. I assess each person in a completely individualized way.

Here you shall find some thoughts, my experience as a teacher, reading recommendations, interesting conversations with world-renowned experts in osteopathy … In this space you can get to know me a little more. If I am consistent, it will not be easy to discern where the person ends, and where the therapist begins.
